25-Hydroxyvitamin D is the most abundant and stable form of vitamin D in the bloodstream and the standard marker used to assess vitamin D nutritional status. Levels reflect a combination of dietary intake, supplementation, and skin synthesis from sunlight.
This test is used to screen for vitamin D deficiency in patients with bone disorders such as osteoporosis or osteomalacia, malabsorption conditions, chronic kidney disease, autoimmune conditions, or nonspecific symptoms such as fatigue, muscle weakness, or bone pain. It is also commonly used to guide and monitor vitamin D supplementation. Sample type is serum.
