This PCR-based urinary tract infection panel detects DNA from a broad range of uropathogens, including organisms that may be difficult to grow in culture, are present in mixed infections, or have already been partially suppressed by recent antibiotics. Many panels also detect common antibiotic resistance markers, allowing more targeted treatment decisions.
This test is especially useful in patients with recurrent UTIs, complicated infections, suspected antibiotic-resistant infection, immunocompromised status, or symptoms with negative standard cultures. Results are typically available faster than standard urine cultures. Sample type is a clean-catch midstream urine specimen, with collection guidance available to ensure accurate results.
