This four-test panel measures TSH, T3, T4, and free T4. Adding free T4 to the standard combination provides a more accurate assessment of biologically active hormone, especially in patients where binding protein levels may distort total T4 results — such as in pregnancy, liver disease, or with certain medications.
This panel is used when more detailed thyroid evaluation is needed than a basic three-test panel provides, in patients with complex thyroid disease or unusual presentations, and to monitor patients on thyroid hormone therapy. Sample type is serum.
