Combining thyroglobulin antibody (TA) with thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibody testing increases sensitivity for autoimmune thyroid disease. Most patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis have elevated TPO; thyroglobulin antibodies add value in a subset of patients and are important when monitoring thyroid cancer.
This panel is used to confirm autoimmune thyroid disease, evaluate the cause of subclinical or overt thyroid dysfunction, and support pre- or post-treatment monitoring for differentiated thyroid cancer. Sample type is serum.
