TESTOSTERONE TOTAL

Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone but is also produced in smaller amounts in women. Levels naturally peak in the morning and decline through the day, so blood samples are typically drawn between 7-10 a.m. for the most accurate baseline.

This test is used to evaluate low testosterone in men with symptoms such as decreased libido, fatigue, loss of muscle mass, mood changes, or infertility; investigate elevated androgens in women, which may cause excess hair growth, acne, or irregular menstrual cycles; assess delayed or precocious puberty; and monitor testosterone replacement or anti-androgen therapy. Sample type is serum.
