SSA ANTIBODY

Anti-SSA (anti-Ro) antibodies are found in most patients with primary Sjögren syndrome and a significant proportion of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. They are particularly important in pregnancy because they can cross the placenta and cause congenital heart block in the fetus.

This test is ordered to evaluate suspected Sjögren syndrome (dry eyes and mouth, joint pain), help characterize lupus, evaluate neonatal lupus, and assess pregnant women with autoimmune disease for fetal heart block risk. It is typically tested alongside SSB and other autoimmune markers. Sample type is serum.
