PROTEIN 24 HR URINE

A 24-hour urine collection provides the most accurate quantitative assessment of urinary protein excretion, important for diagnosing and staging kidney disease. Normal excretion is below 150 mg/24 hours; persistent elevation indicates kidney disease, with nephrotic-range proteinuria (over 3.5 g/24 hours) suggesting significant glomerular disease.

This test is used in evaluation of suspected kidney disease, monitoring of known nephrotic syndrome, assessment of preeclampsia in pregnancy, and following response to treatment in glomerular diseases. Proper 24-hour collection is essential for accurate results. Sample type is a 24-hour urine collection.
