Norovirus is the most common cause of acute viral gastroenteritis, causing outbreaks in cruise ships, long-term care facilities, schools, and restaurants. RT-PCR detects norovirus RNA in stool with high sensitivity, supporting outbreak investigation and clinical management.
This test is used in evaluation of patients with significant or severe gastroenteritis, outbreak investigation, and clinical situations where rapid identification of the cause is needed. Most cases resolve with supportive care, but identification supports infection control. Sample type is a stool specimen.
