Lamotrigine is used for various seizure types and as a mood stabilizer in bipolar disorder. While not requiring routine monitoring in most patients, blood level testing can be valuable in specific clinical situations including suspected non-compliance, suspected toxicity (rash, dizziness, ataxia), pregnancy (where levels can drop significantly), and after drug interactions are introduced.
This test is used to assess therapy adequacy, evaluate toxicity, verify adherence, and guide dosing during pregnancy or after changes to other medications. Trough levels are typically most informative. Sample type is serum.
