IGF-BP3 is produced under the influence of growth hormone and carries IGF-1 in the bloodstream. Like IGF-1, it provides a stable measure of overall growth hormone activity and is less affected by short-term fluctuations than growth hormone itself.
This test is used as part of evaluation for growth hormone deficiency and excess (acromegaly), particularly in children with growth problems and adults with suspected GH disorders. It is typically interpreted alongside IGF-1 and clinical evaluation. Sample type is serum.
