HISTOPLASMA GAL'MANNAN AG UR

Histoplasmosis is a fungal infection endemic to the Ohio and Mississippi River valleys and other regions. Most exposures are asymptomatic, but the infection can cause significant pulmonary or disseminated disease, particularly in immunocompromised patients. Urine antigen testing detects fungal components and is among the most sensitive tests for acute disease.

This test is used to evaluate suspected histoplasmosis in patients with relevant exposures or risk factors, particularly those with pneumonia or systemic symptoms not explained by routine testing. It is also valuable for monitoring response to antifungal therapy. Sample type is urine.
