Surface antibody (anti-HBs) develops after hepatitis B vaccination or resolved infection and reflects immunity. A level of 10 mIU/mL or higher is generally considered protective. Quantitative testing provides specific numerical values and is preferred when documentation of immunity level is needed.
This test is used to verify post-vaccination immunity in healthcare workers and other at-risk individuals, assess need for booster doses, and document immunity before procedures, immunosuppression, or in pregnancy. Some immunocompromised patients require higher antibody levels for adequate protection. Sample type is serum.
