Hair samples capture a record of drug use as the hair grows, with the section closest to the scalp reflecting the most recent 30 days and successive segments reflecting earlier months. The HAIRSTAT 9 panel detects nine common drug classes including amphetamines, cocaine, opiates, PCP, marijuana, and others.
This test is used when longer-term drug use history is needed — such as in child custody cases, certain workplace situations, and treatment program monitoring. It is less useful for detecting recent (past week) use, where urine or oral fluid testing is preferred. Sample type is hair, collected per specific protocols.
