Fentanyl is many times more potent than morphine and is a leading cause of opioid overdose deaths. Routine opiate screens do not detect fentanyl, so dedicated testing is required. LC-MS/MS measures both fentanyl and its metabolite norfentanyl with high sensitivity.
This test is used in pain management monitoring (where fentanyl may be prescribed), addiction treatment, post-screening confirmation, and emergency or forensic settings. Fentanyl is detectable in urine for 1-3 days, with norfentanyl detectable somewhat longer. Sample type is urine.
