CYTOMEGALOVIRUS (CMV) ANTIBODIES IGG

CMV is a common herpes virus, with most adults eventually becoming infected. After infection, IgG antibodies persist for life and indicate prior exposure. Determining CMV status is particularly important in transplant medicine, where mismatched donor-recipient CMV status can have major clinical implications.

This test is used for transplant evaluation (both donors and recipients), pregnancy screening when congenital CMV is a concern, and immunocompromised patient assessment. A positive IgG indicates past infection and continued risk of reactivation, while a negative result indicates no prior exposure but possible vulnerability to primary infection. Sample type is serum.
