Anti-CCP antibodies target citrullinated proteins and are far more specific for rheumatoid arthritis than rheumatoid factor. They often appear years before symptoms develop and predict more aggressive disease with greater joint damage. Their high specificity makes them especially valuable in diagnosing early or seronegative inflammatory arthritis.
This test is ordered to evaluate patients with joint pain, stiffness, and swelling suggestive of inflammatory arthritis. A positive anti-CCP strongly supports rheumatoid arthritis and helps distinguish it from other forms of arthritis. Sample type is serum.
