CMV QUANT DNA PCR (PLASMA)

Cytomegalovirus is a common herpes virus that usually causes mild or no illness in healthy individuals but can cause severe disease in immunocompromised patients — particularly transplant recipients, HIV patients, and those on immunosuppression. Quantitative PCR measures viral load in blood, allowing early detection of reactivation and monitoring of treatment response.

This test is used for routine surveillance in transplant recipients, evaluation of suspected CMV disease (such as pneumonitis, colitis, retinitis), and monitoring of antiviral therapy. Rising viral loads often prompt preemptive treatment to prevent symptomatic disease. Sample type is plasma collected in EDTA.
