CHLAMYDIA/GC AMPLIFICATION

Nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) is the most sensitive method for detecting chlamydia and gonorrhea, finding bacterial DNA even when patients have no symptoms. Both infections can cause significant complications if untreated — including pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, ectopic pregnancy, and increased HIV transmission risk.

This test is recommended annually for sexually active women under 25 and for those with risk factors, and is also used to evaluate symptoms such as discharge, pelvic pain, dysuria, or testicular pain. Many infections are asymptomatic, making routine screening essential. Sample type is urine, vaginal swab, or other site-specific swab.
