blaACC is a plasmid-mediated AmpC beta-lactamase that hydrolyzes most penicillins and cephalosporins. AmpC enzymes are not inhibited by common beta-lactamase inhibitors like clavulanate, limiting use of beta-lactam/inhibitor combinations.
Detection of blaACC in molecular susceptibility testing identifies organisms requiring carbapenems or newer agents for treatment. Sample type is typically a culture isolate or direct clinical specimen.
