This test is used to evaluate vitamin D status, particularly when patients are taking prescription D2 (ergocalciferol) supplementation, monitor response to vitamin D therapy, and investigate deficiency in patients with bone disorders, malabsorption, chronic kidney disease, or nonspecific symptoms. Sample type is serum.
